Meet Polina

In today’s blogpost we would like to introduce a beautiful mind. Whenever thinking of what a happy, beautiful inside and out person looks like it’s important to find those qualities in yourself. What makes you a beautiful person inside? How does the inside, internal beauty come through to the outside world? Have you ever considered that you make a choice every day on how your internal state is portrayed externally?

The choice of what to wear every day can be both exciting and daunting. In particular, it’s very hard to know what to wear if you don’t know who you are as as person and how you feel yourself. Your choice of what to wear reflects how you feel yourself as a person and how you feel yourself on a particular day. It’s important to be able to express your inside beauty to the outside world through such simplicity as a choice of what to wear.

Polina is an inspiration of how fashion is not about following the most recent trends. Fashion is what you make of it and why.

If you ever felt confused of where to start in defining your inner state in terms of style, the interview will show that style comes from within!

How do you decide what to wear in the morning?

The weather in London changes every minute so the first thing I do is check the forecast for the day. I always choose my shoes first depending on the weather and then take it from there. On a rainy day, my go-to outfit is either rubber or leather boots, comfy jeans, an oversized sweater and a long trench coat or leather jacket. When it’s sunny, I go for trainers or sneakers, straight jeans, a white T-shirt and a big coat. My favourite sneakers brand is New Balance but most of their shoes have suede or mesh so I can’t wear them in wet weather.

What’s the one item anyone can pull off?

An oversized black blazer.

Where do you find inspiration?

I love the classics so I build my wardrobe on staples. I find inspiration in old movies and style icons like Jane Birkin, Princess Diana and Audrey Hepburn. I always go for something comfortable and I like an effortless look that mixes simplicity and uniqueness.

What’s your take on social media?

My final year university dissertation topic was false representation on social media, and more precisely Instagram, and its influence on young girls’ self-esteem. At that time I deleted all my SNSs for a period of 6 months. The truth is I felt amazing. I was talking to my friends more because I had no other way to know what’s happening in their lives. I became less self-aware and had so much more free time. Whenever I was on my phone I was either reading about something that actually interests me or connecting with people that I care about.

Now I see social media as a work tool. It’s great for marketing purposes and inspiration. I go on Instagram to research new trends and stalk brands, I also follow a lot of cooking pages that I love but I try not to forget it is all like looking at a magazine. A perfect snapshot of a not so perfect life. When you look at it like that it’s easier to appreciate its benefits.

Any tips for someone who plans to visit London?

I find this question particularly hard because you can literally do anything in London, except sunbathing of course. For me, it’s the vibe of the place and the people on the streets. Walking around without a map and just feeling the city. Getting lost and finding your way to a familiar place. The great thing about London is that it’s so big there’s always a new restaurant opening, a new play coming out or a weird event happening that you didn’t even know existed. I always get excited by the London skyline and cannot believe my luck to be able to call that place home.

What does self-care mean to you?

Self-care to me is anything that makes me feel happy. I’m not really good at making the time to meditate or do yoga but what I do is I wake up early every morning, make a cup of coffee and watch an episode of Friends or How I Met Your Mother. This is my favourite time of the day and I can’t wait to get out of bed to have some alone time and prepare for the day. I believe that anyone can find a small thing that makes them happy and fit it into their routine and anticipate it every day.

Taking care of my body is very important to me as well. I love being physically active and eating good food that provides the right nutrients to my body to be healthy. I literally feel like I took care of myself and that makes me happy.
