I’ve started looking for counselling sessions as I was diagnosed with TMJ (temporomandibular disorder – grinding teeth while sleeping) and although I did not have psychological issues, per se, to be treated, the other professionals in my case listed the possibilities of treatments, and even if many would work directly on the symptoms alleviation, I was alerted that the root cause of it (considering my lifestyle as a researcher and the environmental problems faced) was probably a mild but chronic anxiety. When I started looking for a psychologist, it needed to be an English speaker and preferably someone with a living abroad experience, so I would know that the professional would indeed understand such. I found Uljana as a Counsellor and she proved to be a very pleasant person to talk to and a specialist in her field. Although the first was proved in the very first minutes of conversation, she was patient enough to prove the second one throughout months, not only explaining the concepts behind her points but even to write up the proper references (I’m a researcher in a completely different field, but very curious and skeptical and I would understand if she would judge not productive to mention/share those authors or rather just a lot of extra work, but she was just happy to share her knowledge and that meant a lot for me). The holistic approach, as one of the methodologies that she is trained at, is a broad and very effective way of seeing ourselves, taking into consideration the dynamic functioning of mind, body and the surrounding environment.
I received way more in therapy than I expected. Ulyana helped me think about how patterns affected my life. I felt broken and chilled. Now I regained the curiosity to explore life.
