I would like to share 20 habits to change your everyday’s quality and feel happier. I know it’s not easy to start working on a better version of yourself. To begin a self-transformation journey, you have to feel inspired and know that you have the potential to change and the proper resources to become the person you always wanted to be.
Whatever you think is impossible now, I promise these habits will make you feel that it IS possible. The power is in you.
If you don’t know where to start with your self-transformation, I would like to share the following habits that changed my life.
1. Be intentional daily – know what your day will be about today. Go out of your comfort zone and be intentional with your time, money and relationships. Being intentional means bringing a commitment, focus, and attention to something important to you. You need to become clear about what you want to achieve and then take action on reaching it. You can be intentional in what you think, how you behave and what you want to feel. Your intentions will cultivate your future, so you need to set them right. Having an intentional commitment to what you want aligns your actions with your long term goals and ensures you focus your time on your priorities.
2. Move your body – it’s highly beneficial to your mental state. This is an area of self-care that you can implement in any way, such as walking, running, doing a workout, swimming, dancing … anything! We allow our minds to let go of the mental cloud that inevitably accumulates throughout the day whenever we move. Imagine how big and heavy the cloud gets if we don’t create an opportunity to clear it. The cloud might rain the next day and inevitably cause a storm in a month.
3. Drink what benefits your body, and remember anything in moderation is okay. It’s okay to have an occasional sprite, coffee with syrup and so on. Your body consists of 70% water; remember to maintain a healthy physical and mental function, you need to nourish your body with its major component – water.
4. Go to sleep earlier and wake up earlier. You will have more energy, feel more accomplished and productive and have some time for yourself. It is vital to have ” me ” time before starting the day. Waking up earlier allows you to spend quality time with yourself.
5. Stop reaching for your phone out of boredom. Set a boundary around your phone. What is your phone about? If you pick up your phone – think, why do you do it? Be intentional and honest when answering these questions.
6. Try not to own any debt: not emotional, nor physical. If you have any financial debts, no matter how big or little they are, set a plan on how you will manage them. Unmanaged debts take mental processing and space that we can use for moments in the present and intentions for the future.
7. Remove food guilt. Food should never be associated with guilt. Food is not only nutrition but also fuel. If you are concerned about why you ate a “bad meal,” let it be! Enjoy it and leave no room for guilt!
8. Learn to listen to people and tune in with nature around you. Hold space before you talk back, and be intentional with what you will say when you say it.
9. Don’t make to-do lists. Identify up to 3 things you would like to get done today and ensure there are no more than 3 tasks. Overcrowded lists are hard to follow, and whenever we don’t follow them through, we become anxious and lose trust in ourselves. Having 3 things to get done in a day is more than enough to stay productive and develop confidence in your ability to get done what you set your mind to.
The only time a list is truly beneficial is when you go shopping – our brain gets tired with the amount of stimulation in a shopping space, and we are prone to forget what we came to shop for in the first place. Bucket lists are also a great way to keep track of your dreams.
10. Have a planner/journal/notebook/calendar. Don’t hold your brain accountable to remember everything. Sometimes you just can’t, and you need to have a tool that will remember the things you need to get done instead of you.
11. Find a routine a day – we thrive when there is a routine. t can be a morning, day or evening routine. Routines create habits and habits create personalities. A routine can take anywhere between 2 minutes and 2 hours or any time you decide to devote to it! The familiarity a routine gives us is an antidote to stress and anxiety.
12. Show kindness every day.
13. Read 30 minutes a day to manage your thoughts and wind down. Reading nurtures your imagination. Imagination is beautiful, and it teaches us to have hope. People who lose hope lose will and motivation.
14. Find an activity that makes you relax – drawing, gardening, baking. Days get busy, and you need to know what you would like to do to relax and enjoy.
15. Choose positivity over negativity, go out and find good things in moments of darkness.
16. Have a bucket list for yourself! Where do you want to travel? Who do you want to be? What do you want to buy if you have an X amount of money? A bucket list is so important! A big reason we work so hard is to be able to do the things we always wanted! Use a bucket list for motivation and inspiration, but most importantly, USE it! Get the items ticked off!
17. How does your body feel today? Don’t forget to ask yourself this question every day.
18. Understand what doesn’t feel right about you to you. If you know what it is, you can choose to work on it.
19. Invest in relationships.
20. Do not dwell. Be aware of your emotions and accept the “bad” as part of your life. Sometimes the difficulties need to exist and just be. If we dwell, we do not let emotions in and do not process. A feeling deserves exploration and acceptance.
